Logging in
Logging in to the network is slightly different then it was with the Sun workstations.  The following will discuss the various methods for getting logged in to the new system.

Passwords

Initially, your password is your 7-digit campus ID number.  The first thing you should do when you log in for the first time is change your password.  Choose a password which will be easy for you to remember, but not easy to guess.  Your password should be at least 8 characters, mixed-case, and contain punctuation and/or numbers.  To change your password, bring up a terminal window and issue the kpasswd command.

Remote Access
You must use the ssh secure shell protocol. See Remote Access for more details.
