How
to Access Your NetWare Account
Off-Campus with FTP
You
may use an FTP client to access your NetWare account from the Internet.
This service allows you to manage your home directory and shared folders
from your home computer. You can move, rename, and delete files or transfer
files between your home computer and your campus NetWare account.
You
need to know the following information in order to access your account
with FTP:
Host
Name: ftp.nds.it.uwosh.edu
User
ID: Your NetWare Username
Password:
Your NetWare password
Three
different ways to use FTP are describe below:
Internet
Browser
Individuals now have access their home directory from anywhere in the
world using the Internet. If you use the Netscape browser on either Windows
or Macintosh you must use version 4.x. Users of Internet Explorer can
use version 4 or higher. Other browser versions have not been thoroughly
tested.
Type
the following in the address line of your browser: ftp://username@ftp.nds.it.uwosh.edu
Note:
"username" is your Novell logon name. For example,
if your username is "JOHN_DOE" then you would type ftp://john_doe@ftp.nds.it.uwosh.edu.
You
will be prompted for your Novell password and upon successful login you
will be looking at your home directory as if you were sitting on campus.
Now you can copy files to or from your home computer so you can work on
them without having to carry around diskettes or ZIP disks, and without
having to worry about corrupt media.
FileZilla
This example will show you how access your NetWare account using an FTP
client called FileZilla.
http://filezilla-project.org/.
Step
1. Start FileZilla from any computer connected to the Internet.
Step
2. Create a New Site with the following credentials and enter your
username.
Step
3.
Change the "Logon Type:" to Normal
Step 4. For Servertype select FTP over SSL (explicit
encryption) or FTP over TLS (explicit encryption)

Step
4. Click on "Connect" and enter your user name. If all
is well, you will connect to your Novell account and the remote directory
will automatically be your home directory.
