Novell NetWare Information

The UW Oshkosh campus uses the Novell NetWare Network Operating System as the standard for networking file servers, desktop computers, and printers. Novell NetWare extends the abilities of a Windows 9x/2000/XP PC or Macintosh by providing powerful network services including:

• Individual home directories for private file storage

• Shared directories for groups of people that share files or programs

• Networked printing services so people may share printers

• A high level of security to prevent unauthorized access of information

• State-of-the-art virus protection

Novell NetWare accounts are available to staff, faculty, and students. Novell NetWare is separate from the VaxA and Suns systems.

How to access Novell NetWare from off campus

There are several ways to connect to from off campus. All of these solutions assume you have internet access and are able to get on the web. Which solution will work best for you depends whether you are using a PC or a Mac, your needs, what internet browser and plugins you are working with, and your preference or comfort level with the solutions provided below.
PC Solutions
      Netstorage ---Link is https://ed3.nds.it.uwosh.edu/oneNet/NetStorage/
      Use your Novell username and password when prompted
      NetDrive --- Free utility that maps a drive to a file servers using Webdav or FTP
      FileZilla --- Free FTP Utility to get to U: drive on file servers       
Macintosh Solutions
