Using Sun Client

The Sun provided client is available by visiting a web page. You can start the client by visiting http://im.uwosh.edu. On the Mac, you will need to click on the downloaded im.jnlp file. To log in, you just need to use you TitanMail login and password. If you are having problems logging in or don't know your username or password, you can contact the Academic Computing Help Desk at (920) 424-3020 or acshelp@uwosh.edu for assistance.

Using Other Clients

Some other third party clients can be used if preferred. The clients that are supported will provide the Jabber/XMPP protocol. Some of the working clients include Trillian (Win), Pidgin (Win and Linux) and Adium (Mac). In order to connect the client must support TLS. To connect you will need to setup the clients with the following options:

Protocol: Jabber/XMPP
Username: Same as your TitanMail username
Server: im.uwosh.edu
Port: 5222

Chatting with Users on other systems

Due to the closed nature of most IM systems, only Google/Gmail.com accounts can be added to your buddy list. In order to allow Google/Gmail.com users to add you, they must add you using your complete Email/IM address in the form of username@uwosh.edu .

Other systems that use the Jabber protocol and provide federation can also be added to your buddy list. The systems that will not work are AOL, MSN, ICQ, and Yahoo.
