How to use FTP in Dreamweaver

1. First open Dreamweaver then chose SITE / DEFINE SITE if you have no sites defined, or if you have already defined the server, you may open that one and skip to step # 5.

2. First give your site a name, and then what folder Dreamweaver can expected to find all the files that you will need for your site. In the HTTP Address field, enter the URL that your completed Web site will use, so that Dreamweaver can verify links within the site that use absolute URLs.

3. Click Web Server Info, change server access to FTP and type in the ftp host address for UW-Oshkosh web server it's address is ftp.www.uwosh.edu, you may put in your host directory, which should be the folder where your web page is stored on the web server. Put in your username, but DO NOT put in your password, Dreamweaver should prompt you for your password when you login to the sever.

For students the host directory is /information/www.students.uwosh.edu/the first letter of your username/your username

For faculty and staff the host directory is /information/www/home_pages/faculty_staff/username

4. Once you have entered in the information and you click ok, you will see this screen, highlight the site you wish update and then click done.

5. Click connect and you should see this screen, enter your password and click ok, make sure Save Password IS NOT checked.

6. Now you should be connected. Dreamweaver will start in the host directory you setup in step #3. Put your files where you would like them to go and then you are finished with updating your web page.
