1. New faculty/staff, needs Eudora icon and Users dir setup.

Create OWN Users\Username Folder - Follow Eudora Installs Doc.  Either assign to tech or if comfortable, walk them through it.

2. "Remote Instance error" message when running Eudora.

Needs to delete a file called "owner.lok" located in the Eudora folder.  File created at the time Eudora is launched and supposed to be deleted when user properly exits.If this is not a shared E-mail account where two people may be accessing remotely at the same time then do the following to tell Eudora not to create this OwnerLok file: Close Eudora.
Edit the eudora.ini in the folder that the account has its mailboxes. In the [Setting] section, enter a new line -
OwnerLok = 0
Save the eudora.ini file

Edit their eudora.ini. In the [Settings] section, enter another line
      OwnerLok=0
      Save file and exit
      This will stop having Eudora create an owner.lok

3. Illegal Operation when trying to open Eudora. 

Find the Eudora.ini file for that user. Make a backup of it then edit Eudora.ini. Find the section [Open Windows} delete any lines under this but before the next section. Save file and rerun Eudora.

4.  Receive Illegal Operation while in Eudora.

May be memory problem with too many Eudora Windows open. Close Windows.

5.  Entering password but no new mail coming in. No error message.

Open Task Window in bottom of window. It may say password has expired. Change password.

6.  Eudora Crashes.

7.  Open an attachment when windows does not have an association.

From Explorer or My Computer, find the file in Eudora Attach folder. Highlight it and press Shift/File, select Open With. Click the box "Alway open With". Find the program that will open that file.

8.  How to Change VMS Password using Eudora.

Select Special/Change password. Enter Current Passord (Even if expired). Enter New Passord and then Verify (enter New again).

9.  How to suppress addresses being listed in Eudora nickname list. (version 4.x)

Highlight nickname. Click Info tab. Whatever is entered into the Name field is what recipients will see in the To: field

Create Nickname.  Enter what you want people to see in the To: field into the “Full Name” field.

10.  How to edit auto completion drop down list.

To delete a name from the auto-completion drop-down list, select it with your "down arrow key" and press the Delete key.

11.  Configure Standard Signature File.

Tools/Signatures Open Standard file, open one - two spaces, enter your signature. close windows and Save. Tools/Options, Sending Category. Select Standard as Default Signature. Click OK

12. Mac Eudora, message does not display.

Mac Eudora can't read HTML coded messages. However, you can tell Eudora to pass this message into your web browser. Select Eudora File/Open With Browser. Click "Always open with" if you want. Find your web browser program, Netscape or IE using this Open Browser Window and Open.

13. Toolbar disappeared.

Tools/Options, Category Display. Check "Show ToolBar"
It can accidently be removed by right-clicking on the toolbar gray area and de-selected Show Toolbar

14.  How does Return receipt work with Eudora 4.3 - 5.x.

While composing a message, click on the RR or 'Return Receipt' button (Version 5 it's an icon showing an envelope with a green tag. When the recipient reads and closing this message with a compatible email program, they will be prompted that the sender is requested a return receipt and if the click now will Queue the return receipt message. The mail server may email the sender that "Read Receipt" is not a feature, but that it has delivered the message, which is fine.

16.  Data or Nickname error when trying to send .Message is Queued.

Nickname used does not have an email address associated to it. Open Address book, select nickname and enter the correct email addresses in the address field.

17.  Eudora From home sending mail receives bounce  vaxa.cis.uwosh.edu will not Relay.

Client needs to enter the SMTP server for their ISP in the Personality that is being used in the From field.

18. Client receives the message "could not open attachment file" when trying to send email.

Check OUT Mailbox. Open oldest Queued message. If this is trying to send an attachment with this message, maybe the attachment does not exist. Try Transfering this message to a TEMP mailbox. Do other message now get delivered?

19.  How to find message that match a string

From Eudora, Edit/Find Messages. Select the mailboxes you want to search and the criteria.

20.  E-mails the user sends do not have a from Field

Someone cleared the Tools/Options Getting started fields. Entered fields and works again

21.  Attachment received. Sender said it was some type of Word document, but it won't display when I double-click it.

File did not have an extension, so the OS doesn't know what to open it with. Open Word, then File/Open. Find the file in your Eudora Attach folder.

22. Every time client sends a message, gets a copy of the message she sent in her inbox, in all italics. The messages do get where they need to be.

Delete the filter for someone created that put copies of outgoing mail in the IN mailbox. Check mark Keep Copies in Tools/Options Category/Sending mail.

23. What files contain the Eudora nicknames and where are they?

Find your Eudora folder - right-click on Eudora icon, select Properties and click Shortcut tab. Go to the directory displayed in the Starting field. Copy the two "nndbase" files to where you would like them to go.

24.  How to create Eudora "list" nickname.

Address Book, New, name the list. Enter each address one per line or copy and paste email addresses from a mail message you have.

25. Reply to someone using Newsgroups in Netscape takes you to Eudora without the contents of the message.

Eudora, Tools/Options, Category: Misc. Uncheck intercept Netscape mailto url and newsgroup email will be handled by Netscape.

26.  How do you change fonts and font size when printing e-mail messages in Eudora. 

In Eudora, Tools/Options, Category Fonts. Change the font size for Message, Screen and printer.

27. When creating a new nickname and pasting email addresses in from a word doc, the nickname changes to the email addresses

In Address Book, change the "View By" to Nickname instead of "View By" - Addresses

28. How to remove "<" from messages.

Place rmvquote.dll in the c:\Eudora\plugins. Becomes an option in Eudora Edit/Message Plugins.

29. Getting Disk Full message trying to retrieve new mail

C: drive is full. Client had Eudora Options configured to Save Messages on Server, so there were thousands left on VaxA.Eudora lost info about this so all messages tried to come in and put his C; drive over. Unchecked save from server, cleaned out Temp files and Eudora.

30.  When client opens Eudora, the reply button acts as the delete button.

Delete button was doing a Reply. Command/Click, drag Toolbar Delete button to trash. Command Click on far left Toolbar, (need to see Crossbars), click to Add button, choose Message Delete.

31.  A window periodically pops up while in Eudora and states "Message must have a recipient field (T, CC, BCC etc. before it can be queued". It says to check the address names.

A filter had a second Transfer to Nothing in the 3rd Action line down after "Skip Rest". It was hidden by the window size. Removed the Blank Transfer field.

32. When user turns on his computer, user receives the error message in Eudora that "some attachments could not be found and were not attached". Also, the screen for sending the messages pops up. This does not happen when the user closes Eudora and starts it again.

Eudora in Startup. Take Eudora out of Startup fixes the problem.

33. The client wants to block out all the e-mails from the specific sender.

Had her create a Eudora filter - Action: Transfer to Trash

34. The client receives message in mailbox "Damaged Table of Contents" and would you like to Rebuild it?

Don't do anything yet. Have them copy their In.mbx to another location. Make sure they copy the correct In.mbx. To make sure, Right-click on the Eudora icon they use, select properties, select the Shortcut Tab and look at the Start In field. Then go back and click yes for rebuild doc. There will probably be messages that are no longer there. If there's important messages missing, Have them open the backup in.mbx with Notepad or Wordpad. They may at least be able to view most of the message with the editor unless the file is mostly corrupt.
