How do I change the time zone on my computer?
Windows
- In WIndows Vista, by default any user other than a Guest can change the time zone. To access the date and time options, in Windows Vista, click the clock in your Taskbar once and then click the
Change date and time settings...link at the bottom. In earlier versions of Windows, double-click the clock in your taskbar. -
Alternatively, from the
Startmenu, choose eitherControl Panel, orSettingsand thenControl Panel. Then double-click theDate and Timeicon. - In Windows Vista, click
Change time zone.... In Windows XP and earlier, click theTime Zonetab. - From the drop-down menu, select the appropriate time zone (e.g.,
(GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)for the Eastern time zone or(GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada)for the Central time zone). - In most of the US, including Wisconsin, make sure the checkbox for adjusting automatically for DST is checked.
- Click
OK.
Mac OS X
- From the
Applemenu, selectSystem Preferences.... Then, in theSystem Preferenceswindow, clickDate & Time. - Click
Time Zone. - Next to "Closest City:", choose a city in your time zone.
Note: The latest versions of Mac OS X use DST automatically for Wisconsin. If you have Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), make sure you are running at least 10.4.5, and use Software Update to upgrade if needed. If you're running Mac OS X 10.3 or earlier and you're in Wisconsin, click a city in your time zone that is not in the state of Wisconsin, for example,
Atlanta - USA (Eastern)orAustin - USA (Central).
Mac OS 9
- From the
Applemenu, chooseControl Panelsand thenDate & Time. - For most of the US, including Wisconsin, check the button next to
Set Daylight-Saving Time Automatically. - Click
Set Time Zone..., and in theSet Time Zonewindow, choose a city in your time zone, for example,Atlanta U.S.A.(Eastern) orChicago U.S.A.(Central). ClickOK.
