How do I keep my computer virus-free?

Simply answer the following question to determine what you need to do.

Have you received attachments via electronic mail?
If you answer "NO", then stop here. If you receive one in the future, please refer to this document.

Is the attachment an executable program (usually ends in .exe)?
If you answer "NO", then stop here.

Is it really important to run this program?
If you answer "NO", then you are better off deleting the program and then stop here.

Are you willing to risk infecting your machine?
If your answer is "NO", then delete the file and stop here.

Do you have a current version of an anti-virus program running?
If your answer is "NO", then don't run it until you do have a current release of a major anti-virus software on your machine. Did you know that Norton AntiVirus is the product that is supported by Academic Computing?

Now it is safer to run the program.
While it is unlikely that the program is infected, it is still possible. Please be careful.
