by Ken Penniston A new Halsey computer lab is scheduled to open on January 29, 2001, the beginning of the Spring semester. The Halsey lab will be equipped with some existing computers and printers as well as new equipment that is being ordered. Two new high-speed laser printers will be ordered to supplement the laser printer and dot matrix printers that are currently in the Halsey 259 Resource Center computer lab. Fifteen additional Linux workstations will supplement the 17 Linux workstations currently housed in the N/E-202 lab. Twenty new Compaq Pentium III computers and 6 Macintosh iMacs are being ordered for the Halsey open lab to supplement the 36 computers currently residing in the Halsey Resource Center computer lab, and 43 new Compaq Pentium III computers will be purchased for the Halsey Teaching Lab. Thus, the total computer count will be:
It is possible that the networking equipment necessary to complete the Halsey network infrastructure may not arrive in time to bring up the new lab in its entirety on January 29. If not, we will need to selectively bring up computers in the Halsey open lab, Halsey teaching lab, and the Halsey Linux lab until all of the networking equipment arrives and can be installed.
