4-23-09 Free Dell Laptop Email Scam
There is no free lunch and no free laptop. It isn't a virus but they'll ask for your email address and I can only imagine how much spam that will generate for you.
If you get an email that looks like this:
We have an access of older Dell laptops for our registered students for free. We are giving them away to our students until they are gone.
You can use this for school, personal use. We are offering these for free for the next month or until they are gone.
- Apply Now
Simply enter your college email address here and you will put on the list to receive your Dell Laptop. Once called upon on the list our IT Department will email you where on campus to come pick up your laptop.
This opportunity only comes about every 4 years before we upgrade our computers again. So take advantage now while you can.
Yours Sincerely,
Derrick Rivera.

Don't click on the Apply Now link. Our staff checked it for virus payload and it had none, but it does ask for your email address. Once it has that I can only imagine that it will sell it to other spammers.
Your clue that the email is bogus (besides the free laptop) is to mouse over the Apply Now link and see that it doesn't mention Dell, it is a long string of characters that may or may not make sense. Also the from address was another long jumble of characters and numbers.
Please be ware and be aware. There are a lot of viruses and spam scams out there.
